If you're too old to trick-or-treat (are you ever really?), throwing a Halloween party is the next best thing. You could always just serve beer and jungle juice like most other people will be doing, which will certainly get the job done, but where's the fun in that? Instead, impress (or gross out) your guests with one of these gruesome drinks.
Bloody Brain Shooter
For the Bloody Brain Shooter, aka Bloody Brain Hemorrhage, fill the glass 3/4 full with peach schnapps, then splash in some Bailey's for the curdled brain look. Drip in some grenadine for the blood effect and you're all set.
Bloody Brain Shooter ingredients:
- 3/4 oz. peach schnapps
- 1/4 oz. Irish cream
- dash of grenadine
Alternative ingredients (with vodka and lime juice instead of schnapps):
- 1 1/4 oz. strawberry vodka
- 1/8 oz. Rose's lime juice
- 3/4 oz. Bailey's Irish Cream
- Splash of grenadine
Zombie
The Zombie is a classic cocktail, but its name makes it perfect for Halloween. To mix it, add brandy, both rums, lime juice, and grenadine to your shaker. Strain into a highball glass filled with ice. Fill the glass with orange juice, then float Bacardi 151 on top.
The classic garnishes for a Zombie are a cherry and an orange slice, but if you want to make it spooky, you could try one of these eyeball garnishes.
- 1 oz. apricot brandy
- 1 oz. light rum
- 1 oz. dark or Jamaican rum
- 1 oz. lime juice
- 2 dashes grenadine
- Orange juice
- 1 oz. Bacardi 151 rum
Horny Devils
The Horny Devil cocktail is perfect if savory drinks are more your thing (or for a morning-after-Halloween hangover cure). This recipe makes 12 of them, but you could easily change the amounts to make as many or few as you want.
Mix all ingredients except for the vodka and chili peppers in a pitcher. For each drink, fill the glass 3/4 full with the mixture, then float the black vodka on top. Garnish with chili peppers.
- 1 (64-oz) bottle tomato-vegetable juice cocktail
- 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
- 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
- 2 Tbsp hot sauce
- 2 tsp celery salt
- 3 cups black vodka, divided
- Garnish: serrano chili peppers
Vampire's Punch
Vampire's Punch is a great party recipe since it serves a lot of people. First, muddle cherries in a shaker. Mix all other ingredients except for the 7UP in a bowl, then top with the 7UP and cherries.
- 18 oz. SKYY Infusions Cherry
- 8 oz. Lime Juice
- 6 oz. Cranberry Juice
- 2.5 oz. Grenadine
- 7UP
- fresh cherries, pits removed
Shrunken Head Punch
For the punch, combine the cider or wine, lemonade, and ice, then float the apple "heads" on top. You can check out this recipe to find out how to make the actual heads.
Shrunken Head Punch ingredients:
- 1/2 c. lemon juice
- 2 Tbsp. salt
- 8 firm apples
- 6 c. pasteurized apple cider (or wine)
- 1 frozen lemonade, concentrate, thawed
- ice cubes, (optional)
Blood-Orange Cocktails
This is by far one of the easiest drinks you could ever make. Just combine the ingredients and chill. The test tubes are what makes it spooky, but you could also try something like these blood bags.
- 1 1/2 cups fresh blood-orange juice (from 7 to 8 blood oranges), chilled
- 6 tablespoons Solerno or other blood-orange liqueur
Eyeball Highball
For this drink, olives and radishes are used to make eyeball ice cubes. Just mix gin or vodka and some vermouth in a shaker, then pour it over the ice in highball glasses.
- 14 medium radishes
- 7 pimento-stuffed olives, halved crosswise
- 16 oz Gin or Vodka
- 1 oz dry Vermouth
Pumpkin Keg
If you do decide to have beer, serve it out of a pumpkin keg for a Halloween flair.
Jello Shots
Who doesn't love Jello shots? They're even better for Halloween because you can put all kinds of ghastly garnishes in them. This site has a lot of great ideas for both shots and garnishes, like using tonic water to make your creations glow under a black light.
They've also got a recipe for the Brain Hemorrhage Jello Shot, which is similar to the Bloody Brain Shooter, but looks a lot cooler.
